In fact, a spot of rudimentary detective work reveals that The Beautiful New Born Children are a German band whose lead singer/guitarist Michael Beckett also plays with splendid groove-based electronicists Schneider TM and has his own micro-house project, Kpt.Michigan. What Domino do tell us is that the second guitarist has a day job designing lace patterns for women’s lingerie, the bass player is married to Beckett and the drummer is a guitarist who picked up sticks for the first time with TBNBC.
Whatever. ‘Hey People!’ is a full-speed (nine tracks, 23 minutes) exercise in raw, heroically lo-fi punk, equally indebted to The Sonics , Stooges, early Sonic Youth and Pixies, although some tracks suggest a very rowdy Pavement and a particularly rough-arsed Hives. It won’t change your life, but may liven it up for half an hour. Anyone know the German for ‘snakebite and black’?
