Melodic drones aplenty on this Vanguard tribute to eccentric folk innovator John Fahey, who died in 2001. Under his own name and alter ego Blind Joe Death he drew from blues, Native American music, Indian ragas and experimental dissonance in a career that inspired post-rockers, alt.cou-ntry types and folkies alike. Highlights here come from mariachi wizards Calexico, a rootsy, rocking blast from M Ward, a hypnotic, banjo-led cut from Pelt and a fragmented offering from Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo.
