Stefani and Ciccone’s last lamentable efforts you can understand – the sudden urgent need for slightly past-it rich ladies to purchase themselves easy credibility, but looking as unconvincing as David Cameron attempting to win the 1983 indie block vote on ‘Desert Island Discs’. With Nelly, though, her second album ‘Folklore’ sold in its, er, thousand, so presumably ‘Loose’ is the consequence of her Restart interview with Geffen.
The press release contains ominous signifiers such as ‘variety of producers’ and ‘urban’, and indeed they’ve flung Furtado at the usual battalion of past-it operatives, most noticeably Tim ‘Timbaland’ Mosley. Readers still in possession of their ears know that Timbaland has been marooned in a creative dead-end for half a decade, and tracks like ‘Promiscuous’ and single ‘Maneater’ prove the worst; beats and stratagems so weary they require a five-mile hike in full kit, as alluring and sensuous as Bradley Walsh covering ‘Snooker Loopy’.
While I found the chirpy, I’m-mad-me Furtado of ‘I’m, Like, A Bird’ only slightly less bearable than a night in Rwanda circa 1994, there was at least a personality in situ; on ‘Loose’ all trace of Nelly seems to have been wilfully eradicated. Ballads ‘Te Busque’ and the Chris Martin-penned ‘Why Do All Good Things (Come To An End)?’ might as well have been croaked by Madonna on an off day. The equally obligatory best-before-2003 Neptunes collaboration ‘No Hay Igual’ is less reggaeton, more Two-Ton Ted from Teddington (sans baker’s van); and if you wondered about the Bollywood Bit, ‘Wait For Me’ defies its title in its five Circle Line minutes. The only flicker of originality here is on the closing ‘Somebody To Love’, punctuated by some startling noise guitar which makes one wonder whether Arto Lindsay gatecrashed the session. Otherwise, as far as Furtado’s ‘self reliance’ pseudo-pop is concerned, I am happy to remain a Rechabite, a total abstainer. ‘Loose’ is the best pop album of 2006, with the exception of all the other ones.

I can't believe what I am reading. This is a great album but only people who love to dance will appreciate it. It is very different from what Nelly has done before, but sometimes different cab be good too!
I thought this album was pretty good im usually into rock but i like this.
Nelly Furtado where is your personality.
I happen to love this album. I really don't want to, but I do.
I can only guess that the reviewer is one of those London ponces that has their head so far up their own arse they can stand anything that is remotely 'populist'. This isn't the best album in the world but does have some decent catchy tracks. The comment on Rwanda is just the kind of out of touch ignorance I would expect from such a 'trendy' waster.
Promiscuous is undoubtedly one of Timbaland's best pieces of the decade and that includes the collaberations with Eminem a good album not great but still really catchy
thanks to big money deals we`ve lost nelly.... this album is a big piece of crap. no heart, no soul. out of the box beats and sounds. Same happened to Gwen Stefany. remember the time when she used to melt our hearts with `underneath it all`...? and now? listening to maneater makes one ask: has she been sitting on the loo while singing?
slt cava moi amine je suis marocain a casa
I think Loose is not as great as her other two albums but is still a good album. Folklore was wicked and i dont know why that flopped! Some sik ass tune lyks te busque n somebody to love, but i think maneater is one of her weaker tracks as wel as no hay igual! Nelly Furtado is my fav singer of all tym 4 a long tym n always wil b. One word: original!! not many artists can call themselves this, but she 4 sure can! p.s buy a fever you can't sweat out- Panic! at the disco- omg!!!
Number one single in the UK, number 4 album. Too bad some of that money won't go to take the reviewer out of his van by the river.
wOw, Nelly Furtado DO sweep My Mind OUT that Deaf Guys fall Down when I have her attidue wOw..That works wow..Thanks, Nelly..
What are you people talking about, this album is FANTASTIC. I spent most of my weekend dancing round my room. And for someone who has never liked Nelly this is weird. I would suggest evryone went out there and bought it so it pushes sales. This is def my album for the summer x
And for those who say Nelly 'rocks' i just have to say: LOL... I couldn't possibly take an advice from a listener who says Nelly 'Rocks' or 'Rox'... Gosh this is pathetic! LOL.
This is the worst piece of crap i've heard in my whole life... HOW CAN PEOPLE STILL LIKE THIS GIRL? This is so annoying... Just two words can come out of my mind: SELL OUT. She's making completely ridiculous of herself, she was doing so good with her previous albums and now she comes out with this trash? What a waste of time, paper, plastic and money is Loose!! It made me so nauseous when i heard it, i can't believe that for a minute i thought it might had at least a couple of interesting songs on it.
i used to work on CD:UK. After leaving the studios her dressing room absolutly stank. Of her feet. dear me.
