The knackered Brit-metal monsters cover their ’70s faves (Bolan, Bowie, Blondie, Roxy, Free, Mott, Sweet, The Faces, John Kongos’s original version of ‘Step On’ etc); instead of ritually murdering each song in their amusingly pyrotechnic style (which might have been fun) they cling to the original arrangements like terrified pub rock hopefuls – even roping in a string section for a pointless note-for-note copy of ELO’s ‘10538 Overture’. For God’s sake, why?
