Bernard Emmanuel Farley Jr is a 22-year-old Virginia resident, so presumably he came to Juan Atkins, Derrick May and vintage Kraftwerk in much the same way as anyone makes a voyage of discovery – by first falling deep in love. As its title suggests, however, ‘Nebulae’ tends toward ambient house (Farley is surely a Deep Dish fan), but crisp breakbeats stop it from sounding outdated. ‘Gleam’ gives the genre’s familar molten synth swathes an electro-cum-drum ’n’ bass treatment and is a real highlight.
