Metric are a band of contrasts – from their quiet/loud dynamics, which recall grunge-poppers The Breeders, to their marrying of sweet acoustic noodles with claustrophobic anthems about the rat race. Rather than use electronics to dress up their songs in a fashionable outfit, they use wobbly synth burbles to lend strange new textures to their melodies. The dreamlike voice of Emily Haines (of Broken Social Scene) is the only constant, like someone holding your hand and leading you through a dark wood.
