Londoner Max Sedgley was lucky enough to have had the late UK percussion genius James Blades (1901-1999) as one of his mentors, a dad who worked as a BBC producer and childhood holidays in Jamaica, soaking up reggae and ’70s Miami funk on the local radio. This surely explains his addiction to – and enviable grasp of – bass-heavy electro-funk, sun-glazed soul and supafly nu-disco. Fans of Michael Jackson, Funkadelic, Quincy Jones and Lalo Schifrin, roll back those rugs right now.
