  • It was Derrick May who created the club classic ‘Strings Of Life’ – using sampled chunks of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra – now his pal Jeff Mills extends this love affair between Detroit techno and the orchestra. ‘Blue Potential’ is an ambitious curate’s egg of an album recorded with the Montpellier Philharmonic. Some tracks simply put lush strings over Mills’s hypnotic Roland 909 beats, but the more interesting moments see him enter thrillingly dark orchestral territory.
