Producer Craig Street transformed this smoky-voiced avant jazz diva into a country-tinged Southern belle, all woozy slide guitars and gentle hand percussion. Now Texan legend T Bone Burnett (O Brother, Where Art Thou?, KD Lang, Elvis Costello, etc) tries to back her with trancey hip hop beats and R&B loops. It doesn't quite work: the three best tracks are those featuring her sublime contralto voice with minimal, spartan backing.
