If the much-maligned subgenre that was acid jazz produced only this LP, it may have been worth all those terrible Incognito albums. DJ Femi Williams, bassist Marco Nelson and singer Carleen Anderson released it on Gilles Peterson’s label in 1991, and this expanded reissue is part of a Talkin’ Loud series which includes seminal albums by Roni Size and Galliano. Its low-slung programmed beats and catchy hooks still hold up well, but it’s Anderson’s insinuatingly funky vocals – particularly on the awesome anthem ‘Apparently Nothin’ ’ – that make this a classic.
