Wolf Eyes’ 2004 noise-rock landmark ‘Burned Mind’ was an album of such deranged ferocity that topping it was always going to be a tough call. This follow-up sees the band changing tack slightly, creating an unsettling sound-world of lumbering beats, free jazz skronk and cavernous, ominous distortion. The effect is similar to that of watching a slow-building horror film and suspecting that a terrifying jolt is just around the corner. Not an easy ride, but total immersion is amply rewarded.
