The two biggest jazz artists of the last quarter century unite, like Superman and Batman, for this heavyweight duet of genteel chamber-jazz originals. Metheny plays slinky, single-line solos on an electric and a closely-miked steel-strung acoustic, while Mehldau does his stately, unswinging piano comping. Ballads like ‘Find Me In Your Dreams’ are beautiful but oddly unsatisfying; it only really fizzes into life when Brad’s bassist and drummer join in on two tracks.
