Few bodies of work are quiet as singular as Jarrett’s solo piano recordings, existing somewhere between jazz and classical, his trancey, wholly improvised CD-length structures can be difficult to approach. But this remarkable concert finds Jarrett in short-story mode, with each musical idea afforded just the right amount of time it needs for a thorough working over. The result is a user-friendly suite, composed on the hoof, that moves from rollicking rootsy songs to solemn ballad explorations. The five encores (including a singing revisitation of ‘My Song’) are worth the price alone. Stunning.
