Two albums into their career and already, it’s getting hard to believe that Brakes main man Eamon Hamilton used to be in the slightly underwhelming British Sea Power. Certainly, his current band already possess a swagger and invention which feels entirely their own. Twisted power-pop, thrash punk and forlorn country provide the bracing backdrops for Hamilton’s lyrical ruminations which encompass mobile phones, US foreign policy and the Russian literary giant Mikhail Bulgakov. Singular and entertaining.
