Ms Bunton’s 2004 album ‘Free Me’ was, by some distance, the best solo effort by a Spice Girl. This puts us in World’s Tallest Midget territory, of course, but her schtick – bossa-tinged ’60s Bond girl – was a good one. So it’s a pity that she reverts to dreary Simon Cowell-ish ballads for much of this follow-up. She’s still good when she sticks to that retro Michel Legrand/Tony Hatch/Burt Bacharach template (see tracks 3, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11), but the best melody is ruined by her inability to pronounce the word ‘Mischievous’.
