Life can be difficult when you’re in a band. You have a shtick that wins you acclaim, but also gets you typecast. People complain that all your albums sound the same. So then you record something that sounds completely different, and everybody decides that, actually, they think they preferred your old stuff. So it is with desert rockers Calexico, who’ve abandoned their B-movie mariachi for sub-standard alt.rock. Unfortunately unmemorable.
