Bosnian pianist Bojan Zulfikarpasic’s improvisational albums have seen him hailed as a sort of Balkan Keith Jarrett. But here he draws on contemporary beats and Balkan folk, plays a Fender and his own distorted Rhodes-like xenophone and even samples early blues recordings in his most eclectic and engaging album yet. The coruscating ‘Wheels’ sounds like Sun Ra playing the blues, and elsewhere he conjures an appropriately spacey version of Bowie’s ‘Ashes to Ashes’. Extraordinary.
