A long overdue re-release for this towering slab of avant rock, which gave birth to the name, if not the sound, of a genre with its opening 11-minute dronefest ‘Krautrock’. Ironically, if anything, this album proves the reductive redundancy of that term since Faust share little with their apparent peers Can and Neu!. While the aforementioned pair dealt mainly in sleek and gloriously implacable repetition, Faust added a dose of playful surrealism to the mix. Mesmerising.
