This sophomore effort from the US quintet is billed as a ‘progression’; which, if that means ‘augmenting your tried and tested template with electronic bleeps and some processed guitar’, it is. Really though, whether CYHSY have or haven’t moved on musically is irrelevant – they could make the most startlingly inventive music ever and it still wouldn’t divert attention from singer Alec Ounsworth’s unmistakable, opinion-splitting croak. Most unique voice of a generation or the sound of a man being strangled? You decide.
