  • If imitation really is the sincerest form of flattery, then somewhere up there the ghost of Marc Bolan must be listening to this debut album from young Chicagoan Vandervelde and blushing. For as well as the fact that the shame-free troubadour has a freakishly similar voice to the corkscrew-haired glam dwarf, here every song owes a huge debt, both musically and lyrically, to T.Rex. Opener ‘Nothin’ No’ is ‘Life’s A Gas’, the lovely ‘Feet Of A Liar’ is ‘Cosmic Dancer’ and ‘Can’t See Your Face No More’ is ‘Deborah’, right down to the bongos – really, even the children of the revolution would be fooled. Admittedly quite a flawless impersonation, but come on.
