It’s true what they say about appearances being deceiving. Take a glance at scruffily blokey Southend-based four-piece Switches and you might not expect them to be handclap- and Freddie Mercury-falsetto-assisted pop-glam stompers, but they are. What’s more, when they’re good – as on infectious single ‘Lay Down The Law’ – they’re as much fun as any of their more made-up contemporaries are for bellowing along to, and even when they reach the low (‘Loving It’), they’re still endearingly dumb enough for you not to notice too much.
