‘World’ music is a pretty baggy term at the best of times, supposedly encompassing a thousand unrelated sub-genres simply by way of geography (ie they're all from Over There). However, this compilation stretches the definition to breaking point, featuring as it does the worth-rock likes of Ben Harper and Fat Freddy’s Drop alongside (very) well-established world music names like Ali Farka Touré and Cheb I Sabbah. It's a great primer if you need to want to know what your ethically-aware friends are on about at picnics, but even passing enthusiasts will already be familiar with everything here.
