With ‘A Ghost Is Born’ guitarist, the peerless Nels Cline now permanently on board, Jeff Tweedy’s gang release their fourth studio LP. Clearly, Cline’s aren’t the only talents at work in Wilco, but the breadth of his playing is key. Tweedy’s downbeat poeticism delivers more casually poignant blows (‘Hate It Here’ almost hurts), his admiration for Gram Parsons, Neil Young and The Band never silencing his own voice. An(other) understated triumph.
