In 2005, R Kelly compared his unintentionally hilarious ‘hip hopera’ ‘Trapped In The Closet’ to Shakespeare. Now, in the run-up to this eighth album of sickly smooth R&B (featuring – you guessed it – Akon, Snoop and Usher, as well as Dre and Kanye West on production duties), he is claiming to be ‘the Ali of today. The Marvin Gaye of today. The Bob Marley of today, and the Luther King.’ Titles like ‘Sex Planet’ however, suggest he’s merely the R Kelly of today, and as dull as the one of the last 15 years.
