Born in Hawaii, sometime resident of Seattle, New York, Paris and London, influences ranging from Sonic Youth to Low to Nina Simone… before you even get to her songs, the story of Simone White might seem the most interesting thing about her but, marvellously, the music on this second album is more than up to the task of matching it. Augmented by some subtle instrumentation (courtesy of Lambchop/Will Oldham producer Mark Nevers), lovely modern folk songs such as ‘The American War’ and ‘Mary Jane’ show off their creator’s beautiful voice to the full.
