  • On rages the debate over UK hip hop: can it compete with America? Is it too in thrall to the US? The Nextmen’s 2003 LP ‘Get Over It’ proved it needn’t be with an aggressive, almost-bashment bounce that shone alongside Fallacy. After that they worked with Corinne Bailey Rae and her talent for dullness appears to have rubbed off. ‘This Was Supposed To Be The Future’ might be diverse but it opts for a smooth and polished sound that will only be of interest to drinkers in trendy wine bars.
