It’s fair to assume any band that debuted with an album called ‘Fuckfest’ is concerned with something other than blue sky and gambolling lambs. So it is with these Californians, whose sixth is a lean, mean and thrillingly moody exploration of the ways in which art punk, free jazz, textured soundscapes and sludge/psych rock might combine – brilliantly and with a surprising degree of swing, in fact. Fans of The Jesus Lizard, Company Flow, Dead Meadow, Boris, Godspeed… and Tomahawk should find ample succour here.
