Another young singer-songwriter (sigh), but this time one that doesn’t sing in mockney patois or employ a skiffle-ska sound (hurrah!). Sure, Liverpool’s Mr McGuinness isn’t too original either but his chiming, sometimes ecstatic blend of pscyhedelic troubadouring is a fine, otherworldly thing that paints him as a fan of Syd Barrett, Of Montreal and The Shins, all of which he filters through a vaguely music hall lens.
