To be honest, Manu Chao’s solo stuff has never lived up to his live show, and each new album serves more as an excuse for Chao to continue his perpetual tour of the world’s least glamorous locations rather than a considered and carefully crafted suite of new material. ‘Radiolina’ doesn’t buck this trend and, though Chao’s passion and musicianship can’t be faulted, you can’t help wishing you were hearing it in the flesh. Or that you’d bought Gogol Bordello.
