  • Sam Beam might sound like a real ale, but it is in fact the birth name of lavishly bearded American pastoral troubadour Iron & Wine. Previous LPs have shown him to be a master of lustrous, hushed, warmly intimate and subtly hypnotic balladry and his third is no different. It does, however, see him veering off down some new paths – most strikingly, backwoods dub reggae (on the terrific ‘Wolves [Song Of the Shepherd’s Dog]’) and, with ‘House By The Sea’, the psychedelic Indian marinescape.
