Drummer John Moloney’s psych folk/free jazz cum krautrock project is so out-there it’s had them declared the standard bearers of the ‘new weird America’. Their latest album was not only produced by Four Tet, but also conceived by him as a bunch of ‘directed’ improv pieces which he later remixed. By turns malevolent and mischievous, it recalls Can, 23 Skidoo and Boris – not so much sunburned hand as scorched earth.
