Remember ‘Magnolia’, and Paul Thomas Anderson’s montage of messy relationships and an even messier plague of frogs, shot to match Aimee Mann’s smart, Supertramp-referencing soundtrack? Feeny does, and the makers of ‘The OC’ used her ELO-referencing ‘Mr Blue’ to similar effect last season (minus the frogs); hence this re-release. It’s emotionally direct – and the title track’s LA canyons-style country rock is lovely – but while compatriots like Meg Baird and Joanna Newsom seemed to emerge from the ether, Feeny’s on the ringroad to IKEA.
