Two Pipers Piping

Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Friday February 1 2013 0:00

Early music specialist Philip Pickett and his Musicians of the Globe revive the dazzling Scottish and Irish instrumental music fashion of seventeenth-century London's taverns, streets, theatres, coffee houses and music rooms – a wide-ranging, brilliant and eclectic survey of Celtic ballad tunes and dances including popular melodies from Playford's 'Dancing Master and Collection of Original Scots Tunes', and Thomas D'Urfey's 'Pills to Purge Melancholy'.

They are joined by acclaimed Galician piper Carlos Núñez for a riotous evening of pipes, whistles, fiddles, guitars, drums and more.
