Cara Dillon

Blues, roots and country, Folk, World

  • Critics' choice

Traditional and rootsy Irish singer Dillon (formerly a member of folk-pop group Equation) possesses a terrific voice, clear as a mountain stream, and her 2010 LP – a set of covers of traditional songs called 'The Hill of Thieves' – was voted album of...

A Night at the Cinema in 1914

Rating: 4/5

This BFI collection of short films offers a snapshot of the sort of material that was playing in British cinemas a hundred years ago. Needless to say, there’s not a blockbusting comic-book sequel in sight. Instead we’re treated to a curious, winning...

Ace, unassuming folk duo (and winners of the 2012 Isambard Folk Award) who take their stripped-back settings of traditionals slow and steady – often to spellbinding effect – on debut album 'The Seas are Deep'. He's been compared to a young Richard Thompson,...

A fantastic venue with friendly staff, excellent events for individuals and groups including fantastic outreach work, a great cafe and very interesting exhibitions. Plus, I recently attended a family barn dance and great fun. My teenage niece had really enjoyed folk music week long course over half term and she told me she loved it. Keep up the good work!
