WOMEN OF THE WORLD: Meklit Hadero

Born in Ethiopia, raised in the US, schooled in political science at Yale and nurtured, of late, in the San Francisco arts scene, this soulful singer and UN campaigner for gender equality in Africa combines jazz and West Coast pop with a certain African lilt, not to mention arrangements full of drama and brains. Part of the 'Women of the World' festival.
