This three-day festival at the Yard Theatre in Hackney has an exciting line-up of underground artists from London and beyond. Headlining are Chapman, a cult folk singer and guitarist who began his career in 1967, experimental North American artists Slim Twig and US Girls, and expansive, shoegazing alt rock band Merchandise. Other highlights include former Emeralds man Mark McGuire, spiky indie pop one-man-band Scott And Charlene's Wedding, alt punks Fat White Family and rowdy noise merchants Sauna Youth.
This probably won't be your average gig experience, either: Yard Party apparently intends 'to haul the DIY concert out of it's expected parameters and into 'interesting pastures new' to enhance the potency of the music, its effect on the audience and to deconstruct the passive nature of what witnessing live music in 2013 shouldn't be'. We don't know what that means, but it sounds like it could be pretty great.
