Rock, pop and dance
Don your finest indie gear, practice your gig bounce and get ready to rock out at one of these great gigs. Highlights include Reverend And The Makers & Pete And The Pirates smashing it at Koko, the immense Chalk Farm Jamboree staged across four venues and with acts including Bloggers Delight, sharp witted indie popsters The Indelicates and The Bad Robots, and indie folksters Noah and the Whale who headline 'Push' at the Astoria.

Ray Gelato Jazz Giants and Ronnie Scott's Allstars cook-up a swing storm at London's most famous jazz venue, US jazz-funk master, Roy Ayers, sees in the new year at the Jazz Café and there's a packed line-up at Chelsea's 606 Club with superior Latin jazz sextet Samara and funky jazz vocalist, Rachel Calladine among others.

Folk, blues and world
Slim pickings for folk fans this year sadly, but there's still a top gig at the infamous Ain't Nothin' But Blues Bar with the super energetic Franck Ash Band taking us into 2009.

I have to say there is another great pick for a top Blues gig on New Year's Eve. Its at The Troubadour Club ....a legendary fairly intimate venue (Hendrix, Dylan, Mayall played here) with great sound. The band is BluesMix who I have seen once here and once at The Borderline. They are a fantastic funky Blues band with an original edge. I'll be seeing in the new year at the Troubadour. Recommended!
