  • The Mules + The Victorian English Gentlemen's Club + Pop Levi played On The Up on Wednesday 6th September

  • On September 6, it was time for the posh boys to take over with lead act The Mules. Formed at Oxford University in 2003 after drumming singer Ed Seed – who currently works for a government think tank – met pianist Tim Burke and discovered a mutual obsession with The Band. They brought in James Lesslie (bass), Duncan Brown (guitar) and Nico Beedle (fiddle) to create a sound Ed describes as ‘a carnival of sound: vaudeville, country, experimental music and post-punk.'

Girl-boy-girl group The Victorian English Gentlemen's Club played their edgy schizo jerk-pop; an instantly addictive live atmosphere, with an ever-so-slightly distinguished air. And Pop Levi, a one-man wunderkind from Liverpool, sprinkled '60s-inspired twinkly music from on high.
