  • Portico Quartet + support

  • By Time Out editors

  • Remarkably refreshing and difficult to pinpoint, Portico Quartet have been compared to Ben Allison, Esbjorn Svennson Trio and The Cinematic Orchestra. Blurring contemporary jazz with modern classical tendencies, their approach gives a nod to the work of Steve Reich and Philip Glass, whilst their melodic rhythms are reminiscent of Penguin Café Orchestra

The music is young, exuberant and easily accessible. Appealing to fans of The Gotan Project and Zero 7, the debut album ‘Knee Deep In The North Sea’ could be the common denominator in fiercely diverse musical collections.

The band already have a committed following thanks to performances at the Barbican and QEH and impromptu shows on the South Bank. They’ve had sync rights to a track signed up by MTV and have been invited to record a session for Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide radio show.
