On The Up

Bringing you the best emerging talent

  • The Shortwave Set, Theoretical Girl, Golden Silvers

  • By Time Out editors

  • If Danger Mouse (yes, he of Gnarls Barkley fame) says that a band are brilliant, who’s going to argue with him? Having heard The Shortwave Set’s new album,'Replica Sun Machine', which is produced by the aforementioned Mouse, and features John Cale and Van Dyke Parks, there really isn’t any need for a row. Like the Gnarls Barkley man says, the band’s self-styled ‘Victorian funk’ and summery psych-pop is pretty special.
Main support came from Theoretical Girl, an unlikely trendsetter from Southend who specialises in a crisp, minimal, ’60s-toned pop. Second support came from Golden Silvers.
