Still the most fun you can have for free in London with your clothes on, Time Out’s On The Up returns with another minibus-load of the capital’s finest band and disc-jockeying talent.

Headlining upstairs is Speech Debelle - forget drum-machine beats and aggro flows, this south London rap munchkin uses acoustic guitar, double bass and brushed snares for grooves, with lyrical content tending more towards sensitive introspection on her misspent youth. One of the most touchingly genuine of London's rising MCs.

Alongside resident party-starters The Beat!, downstairs at July’s OTU will feature a set from The Dum Dum Boys. Having torn up the underground clubs of London for the past six months, the DJ duo are now shamelessly hurtling towards the mainstream. With their unique mash-up of krautrock, disco and garage, this will be their first stop-off on the path to full-blown DJ royalty.

Also gracing the decks at this month’s event is promoter extraordinaire Andy Peyton, aka the brains behind new blog/club night/clothing label ‘Scandalism’. Anticipate a genre-spanning set that multi-tasks as hard as the man himself, with a generous smattering of electro beats, a heavy dose of rock ’n’ roll and the kind of bass-heavy hip hop that makes your internal organs vibrate (ie, the best kind).

Topping the bill downstairs, and rapidly becoming known as the best-dressed musical twosome around, are the delightfully quirky The Broken Hearts, who look like the long-lost love children of Bettie Page and Pierrot the Clown – in a very good way. On their weekly show for Q Radio, the retro showgirls spin a rare selection of carefully selected tunes (sample themes: candy, cowboys, tea and coffee) in equally well-put-together vintage outfits. Having been known to drop everything from Harry Belafonte to the Beastie Boys, Amber and Nisha are guaranteed to pull out a plethora of delights from both the DJ crate and the dressing-up box. Excited yet? We are.
