Upon hearing that their estranged father has recently kicked the bucket, three deadbeat Southern siblings named Son, Boy and Kid decide, for posterity's sake, to gatecrash his funeral and remind the congregation of his no-good, drunken ways. The kids from his loving second marriage don't take too kindly to these allegations, however, and a petty regime of tit-for-tat violence plays out on the barren Arkansan plains. Jeff Nichols’ slow-paced and ironically funny tale of revenge gone wrong shows the brutal cause and effect of violent retribution and the ramifications of the decision to take matters of family pride one step too far.
