A comedy concert in which the conductor, pianist and stand-up comedian Rainer Hersch is joined by The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, impressionist Alistair McGowan, pianist Marc-André Hamelin and The London Firebird Orchestra.
Programme to include:
Glinka: Overture to 'Ruslan and Ludmilla' (comedy version)
Britten/UOGB: 'Young Persons Guide to the Ukulele Orchestra' (yes, really)
Liszt/Tom and Jerry: 'The Cat Concerto' (live and on stage)
Prokofiev: 'Peter and the Wolf' (with familiar voices)
Johann Strauss II: 'Laughing Song' (translated)
Pachelbel: Canon (trashed) …and more. Much, much more.
(Whether you are a music professor or can't tell a string quartet from a string vest, this is the family-friendly show for you. After sell-out April Fool's Concert at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in 2012, Rainer Hersch - 'the world's first classical music hooligan' (The Sun) – has moved up a gear: bringing together the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain with full symphony orchestra and stars of the classical world for another afternoon of comedy, music and mayhem. A guaranteed laugh every four bars; one of Time Out's Classical top five classical events of 2009).
