A screening of the second part of this landmark production of Wagner’s Ring directed by Patrice Chéreau for the centenary of the Bayreuth Festival in 1976. The production, a classic in the history of Wagner stagings, was hugely influential both in its political interpretation of the tetralogy and in its theatrical vibrancy.
A psychological penetration which is at once classical theatre and domestic comedy, enabling us to interpret the myths in terms both anecdotal and sublime.
(The screening of 'Die Walküre' is prefaced by a short introduction by Barry Millington. Running time: 217 mins, plus intervals.)
