A screening of the third part of this landmark production of Wagner’s 'Ring' directed by Patrice Chéreau for the centenary of the Bayreuth Festival in 1976. This production, a classic in the history of Wagner stagings, was hugely influential both in its political interpretation of the tetralogy and in its theatrical vibrancy.
A hero has been created who would actually have all the attributes of freedom, but nobody remembered to tell him, in this malignant idyll and bitter comedy.
(Note: The screening of 'Siegfried' is prefaced by a short introduction by Wagner 200 series curator Barry Millington. Running time: 233 mins, plus intervals.)
