Further north still, imposing housing estates on both sides of the road and City University’s main building separate this middle part of St John Street from its northernmost stretch. As you approach Angel, the Georgian terraces around the junction with pretty Rosebery Avenue see a fair amount of property activity – not least because many are rented. At the top end of the street is Hermitage Place, a well-preserved Georgian terrace dating from around 1815, which has just been refurbished. Along its entire length, the paucity of retail options (in comparison with homes, offices and places to eat and drink) indicates how St John Street is not yet a commercial hub or destination in its own right, and remains quieter and more residential than some of the adjacent thoroughfares. More new residential developments are planned adjacent to Brewery Square.

While it is by no means a secret, and rates are already high – this is extremely central, after all, and the amenities are second to none – investors may still find St John Street a future-proof investment.

Transport
St John Street starts at Angel and ends between Farringdon and Barbican tube stations. Bus 153 runs from Finsbury Park to Liverpool Street and travels down a large section of St John Street. Buses 4 and 56 will take you from Angel to Barbican tube in 18 mins.
