There's a luxe-feel to this expensive-looking, 90-cover European brasserie in Mayfair. The design is from Parisian-based architect Clement Blanchet, who, if this place is anything to go by, loves a bit of patinated brass – it's everywhere. The site was recently home to the short-lived Le Chabanais, but don't let that put you off.
The menu goes big on classic European brasserie-style fare. That means dishes ranging from onion soup and foie gras with quince and toasted brioche to a pithivier of root vegetables with chestnuts, thyme and a beurre blanc, Dover sole with brown butter and chives and loin of venison with celeriac, baby onions and crispy kale. Expect to pay Mayfair prices.
The wine list leans heavily on the old world, with big hitting wine-making regions of France prevalent. Fine wines stretch well into four figures but nearly 30 bottles are available by the glass, starting at a picpoul de pinet at £7. A separate bar – Bar 8 – serves a short selection of cocktails, including a signature house martini.
