You’d be forgiven for instinctively patting your pocket for your passport when entering the bright interior of A Toca, so evocative is the competing Portuguese chatter of its devoted locals, staff and big-screen televisions. The menu includes a great deal of seafood, from tapas-style servings of grilled sardines to boiled octopus. We loved signature mains of bacalhau a bras, a mix of salt cod with egg, onions and potato, and a Mirandesa-style sirloin cooked with garlic and olive oil: both featured strong, salty flavours that went well with one of the best-value house reds we’ve tasted. Save room for the dessert of honey and almond ice-cream in a dainty little pot.

Lovely food, fast service. I'd never had proper portuguese food before but am glad I gave it a go. My friends ordered for me thankfully because i didnt have a clue. Definitely worth a try - flavorful food.
I went in A Toca for dinner with my boyfriend, the waiter broght some olives, bread and butter, we ordered calamari with chips and a salted cod with salad. It was the WORST dish we ever had! My calamari were frozen and bitter, and so the chips, the cod was bland. In the end we didn't touch the food, the olives and bread were £5 , and the final bill was £30! The manager was rude when I explained why I didn't like their food. Take an advice, don't go there!!!
I went to A Toca a couple of weeks ago. I'd made a reservation and was a little early, and in a little bit of a hurry. Even though the restaurant was very busy they quickly found me a table. We had caldo verde - potato and shredded cabbage soup with slices of chouriço -which was lovely. I had a main of roasted octupus and potatoes which which generous and flavoursome. My husband had a meat dish. As he brought this to the table the waiter looked at the chips and said "that's not a lot of chips" and promptly got us a new whole side of chips. The staff were swept of their feet busy, but were still attentive and corteous. As it was St Martin's day, which in Portugal is celebrated with eating roasted chestnuts they got us some roasted chestnuts after we finished our main. I jokingly said what about the new wine (which traditionally is served with the chestnuts) and the waiter got us some new wine too. They could have charged us for the extra chips, chestnuts and new wine, it would have been cheeky, but they could. Yet they did not, which made for those gestures to become more than attentive service, but really the welcoming and generous attitude you would expect in a portuguese home. I told the manager that evening how impressed I'd been, and promised I would write an online review, so here you have it! I will come back many, many times, and will be bring back my non portuguese friends, and would suggest you do the same!
Great food, friendly staff. Feels like being back in an everyday portuguese restaurant. Comfort food! :)
Good place, simple Portuguese food but done very well. The fish and meat dishes (especially the Sirloin steak special) are excellent and cooked very rare as requested. Also the portions are massive and it is very good value for money.
Really great home cooked Portuguese food. Massive portions for ridiculously low prices, and friendly staff. Pork dishes especially good.
I just went there to have dinner with my family we sat at the top right balcony and i have to say that i was very disappointed with a number of things: - The waiter that served us wasn't efficient, after we finish the food he didn't remove the empty plates from the table, which can be very uncomfortable. - The meat was of poor quality full of nerves and not well cooked -The furniture was cheep and very uncomfortable and didn't help to make the night enjoyable. Over all not a very professional attitude from the staff!!! On a positive note, i did enjoy the grilled fish. It was well cooked and tasty. I recommend this restaurant if u want to go for some fish at lunch time but not for a relaxing evening with family or a hot date.
in 1 word: amazing, the food is perfect, the people work there are very friendly, the place is good with the new part been open! I defo recommand !! Go go go
