South London hipsters continue to pack out this buzzing, bijou restaurant, making booking essential. Dark wooden tables, pews, and chairs bearing cross motifs are arranged around a tiled horseshoe bar, with stunning stained-glass windows looming over proceedings. Atmospheric, low lighting adds to the ecclesiastical vibe. But there’s more to Angels & Gypsies than stylish decor, as hinted at by legs of serrano ham on display, and blackboards listing wines and specials. The menu combines Spanish classics with more imaginative creations, so dishes such as scallops, ginger oloroso and ibérico ham share space with gambas al ajillo and traditional tortilla. Food arrives on rustic crockery. Prawn croquetas with tender morsels of meat and a spiky habanero salsa hit the mark, while a meatball with melting manchego in its centre, surrounded by a tomatoey broth, was as unexpected as it was delicious. To drink, there’s an interesting selection of wines, sherry and cava as well as an extensive list of rums from South America and the Caribbean. Prices are reasonable and the dress code casual. Camberwell has lucked out at last.

Recently had dinner here after a reccomendation from a friend. Fantastic food, great wine list and attentive service. Check this place out you will not be dissapointed.

This restaurant is by far the best restaurant in London.. Trust me this is simple, fresh and very tasty Spanish Tapas ... Wine selection great ask for Roberto who will be happy to guide you through the list until you find the Real Rubio !!! Service relaxed very friendly and welcoming.. The new reigim is working much better the staff seemed to be more relaxed and interested than before when I use to come here back atbthe beginning of last year. I'll be back for my weekly Friday visit.

Living in camberwell I have always walked past this place and thought it perhaps is like all the other good places in camberwell. I can happily announce that angels and gypsies is a great eating establishment. If you are looking for once in a life time eat this is not. But this does not degrade this restaurant. This is a place you want to go every week! Casual but also appropriate. Fun. Amazing food. Good wine. It is a great all round restaurant.

I organised a group trip here. We all thought the food was exceptional. Each dish was interesting and beautifully cooked, though for me the rabbit and poussin were stand outs. The staff were welcoming and the atmopshere very relaxed. Strongly recommend.

Fantastic! Amazing food for all tastes. Service subtle and attentive, not in your face, great buzz and atmosphere, but not noisy or brash. Loved it! Gem in camberwell! £90 for 2 included lots of beautiful drinks. We will be back.
