I used to live a few yards from here and still go there for regular takeaways, even though it's now a drive away. Over the years I've tried dozens of Turkish ocakbasi places and none - including Mangal and Cirrik - can match the quality of the meat or cooking here: grilled to perfection, the usual range of meats - sis, kofte, cop sis, chicken, quail and fish that can include sardines and halibut - are succulent and soft inside their thin crispy exterior, with a herby, garlicky, chilli tang to the kofte. Generous salads, superb bread - and prices around half the rate of some better-known rivals. Very friendly staff too and, if fetching a takeaway, it's a rare pleasure on a cold winter's day to sit nursing a glass of Turkish chai at the ocakbasi (barbecue pit) warming one's hands while watching the grill man sit turning the skewers by pure instinct, somehow avoiding a single bead of sweat on his brow as he surveys the red-hot furnace at his fingertips. A large two-skewer kofte in a durum-bread wrap, stuffed with all the salads and sauces, will set you back a measly fiver. As it seems to have done for at least a decade. The only deterrent to the Beyti is that it's notoriously difficult to park on Green Lanes or surrounding sidestreets.

We travel from Angel regularly to eat hear, the food far surpasses anything on offer in Upper Street and is a lot more unpretentious it also costs a lot less. Service is always friendly and the portions are generous. It does get busy but you will normally be found a table, if you have to sit by the grill for a while they will move you to a table once one becomes available. We took ma in law here for mothers day one year, the staff made a big fuss of her and all the other mums in our group, our cousin who was over from Cyprus at the time has asked us to take him back to eat there when he comes for another visit, high praise indeed.

Love Beyti. I have lived in Dalston for the last 14 years and eaten at many kebab places round there and further up Green Lanes - this continues to be my absolute favorite. Great flavours, excellently cooked and never greasy. Mmmmm.
